About Toby
I'm a direct entry Chemistry student (i.e. skipped first year) now entering my fourth year at the University of St Andrews. Whilst at school I tutored several students 1:1 in both Chemistry and Maths IGCSEs, in addition to teaching a year 9 Maths and year 10 Chemistry class weekly.
I studied A-levels in Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Further Maths achieving four A*s whilst undertaking an EPQ.

My teaching is very much lead by the student focussing on topics where they need the most help. Working together through exam questions and past papers is often extremely valuable, though dependent on a student's level of knowledge, I am also happy to go back to basics and teach concepts from scratch.
I believe it is important to acknowledge there is more than one way to approach a concept or problem. I have found it is often most valuable to build on a student's existing ideas and follow them to their logical conclusion. This helps build an intuitive understanding which can increase confidence for future problem solving.
