About Karlien
have over 16 years of experience teaching local and international students on a tertiary level, with a focus on foreign language acquisition and academic literacy skills. While obtaining my Master’s degree, I joined Stellenbosch University in 1999 as an editor of a bilingual Afrikaans and Dutch dictionary. After the completion of this project I started my career as a Language Acquisition lecturer as well as an Academic Literacy lecturer at the Stellenbosch University Language Centre specializing in Afrikaans as foreign and first language. In 2016 I joined the Intensive English Programme at the same establishment as a part-time lecturer, and I was soon appointed as the assistant coordinator of English for international students and the Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) programme. At the same time I was named as principal coordinator of the programme’s commercial portfolio, initiating and promoting short courses and workshops.
