About Abi
I'm an avid reader and currently studying English in my final year at the University of St Andrews. I believe my passion for literature and learning and my determination to pass this on to my tutees is what makes me an excellent tutor. I am heavily invested in each student's journey and will tailor each lesson to that student's needs. My goal is to provide students with the tools to not only excel in their exams but also to feel confident performing in classes and revising independently outside of class. No one student learns the same and I am eager to provide a wealth of resources and methods to aid in tackling tough exam questions and the ultimate question: How to revise!

I studied English Literature and Language and History at GCSE and A Level achieving 9s at GCSE and As at A Levels and have gone on to study English at the University of St Andrews. I have experience with the AQA exam board from my time in school and provided voluntary tutoring for younger students. My lessons are suited to students in years 9, 10 and 12 as well as students in their exam years of 11 and 13. I aim to tailor my teaching to each student's strengths and weaknesses and strive to give them the tools to not only pass their exams but aid in their revision. I offer hour-long lessons beginning with a warm-up/starter activity usually testing the recall of a student's learning from the previous lesson. I follow this with a short interactive PowerPoint presentation outlining the topic for the session and typically including games to aid in recall. I will end the lesson with a practice exam question which I will go through in detail with the student and provide detailed feedback on their response giving them pointers to focus on for next time. I believe in aligning the topics for my lessons with what the student is currently studying in classes as a way to complement this learning and aid in their understanding of the subject giving them the confidence to speak up in class and perform to the best of their ability. As exams get closer I will focus more on applying knowledge in practice exam papers using past papers from the student's exam board and also questions of my own devising which target the weak points in the students' knowledge. The goal is to make the student feel confident and secure answering any questions that may come up on their exam papers.
