About Alec
I’m a postgraduate historian and geopolitical analyst — I attract only distinction and commendation grades. I have benefited from a variety of teachers and tutors in my life, not all of them within a school or college. Great teachers stay in our minds and maintain the passion we have for a subject, or they can spark one to begin with. If I can do that, or anything close to it, even for just a few people, I’d be mightily happy.
I'll settle for making history less boring — because it need not be.

After years of successful tutoring, across a wide range of ages — from preparing adults for Oxbridge interviews to teaching children to read properly for the first time at age 9.
I take a reassuringly old-fashioned, rhetorical approach. I remember my good teachers and I also remember the ones who perhaps did not serve me well. I remember my state school and I remember my private school 12 miles
— but an entire world — away. I draw upon that stark duality of experience.
I do not teach to any exam, I teach to the subject until you feel confident and fluent in it. If you leave me feeling confident of the rudiments of a topic, for the rest of your life, the exam between now and then becomes easy.
