About Ryan
My name is Ryan and I am a third-year student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst majoring in biochemistry. I love learning and excelled in my science and mathematics courses all throughout high school in addition to my undergraduate career thus far. As such, I found myself helping classmates, friends, and other students with their science and mathematics coursework from time to time. Through this, I discovered how much I enjoy helping others learn and grow as students. Teaching is enjoyable for me and I love helping other students succeed and excel.
Outside of academics, I love playing the piano and calisthenics training.

My target audience for lessons is high school students taking algebra, biology, and chemistry courses. However, I can also help college students taking intro-level biology, chemistry, and biochemistry courses.
I use the Socratic method to teach which involves asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and draw out ideas. This approach helps students see that there is never a single "correct" answer unless all other ones have been ruled out. I believe that there is always more than one approach to problem-solving and am flexible with students.
A typical lesson plan involves students coming to me with homework questions. I help students work through their homework questions, making sure that they end up having a good understanding of the material covered by the end of the session. Additionally, I can help students study and prepare for exams, offering approaches they may find helpful and helping them in understanding the course material. I believe that there is no such thing as a "stupid" question and students are always free to ask me any relevant questions during lessons.

Took intro to bio last semester with very little knowledge about it before... Ryan got me from a C to an A by explaining things in simple ways that made sense. Highly recommend for people that are feeling behind or just need extra help for an A!!
