About Michal
I'm an aerospace engineer with a B.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and hands-on experience spanning defense and energy systems. I spent three years in defense as a Systems Engineer, including time leading modeling and simulation efforts on a major program, and I currently work as Chief Thermodynamics Engineer at an early-stage startup, where I model thermal and energy systems for advanced nuclear technology.
I tutor thermodynamics, mechanical/aerospace engineering coursework, calculus, differential equations, and applied physics — plus MATLAB and Python for engineering applications. Whether you're stuck on a specific homework problem, prepping for an exam, or trying to build real intuition for how these concepts connect to real engineering work, I focus on making sure you actually understand the "why," not just the steps to an answer.
I know what it's like to sit in these classes and feel like the material is coming at you too fast — I've been through the UIUC aerospace curriculum myself, and I've mentored junior engineers professionally. I'm patient, direct, and good at breaking down dense material into something that clicks.

I structure every session around what's actually blocking you, not a fixed lesson plan. We'll usually start by walking through the specific problem or concept you're stuck on so I can see exactly where the disconnect is — then I'll rebuild the underlying concept from the ground up so it actually makes sense, rather than just showing you the steps to get an answer.
For thermodynamics and physics, I lean heavily on real physical intuition — I'll connect equations to what's actually happening physically, since that's usually what makes the material click for students who've been stuck memorizing formulas. For calculus and differential equations, I focus on building a strong problem-solving process you can apply on your own, not just walking through homework line by line.
If you're prepping for an exam, I like to work backward from practice problems to identify your specific weak spots, so we're not wasting time on material you've already got down. If you're working through a specific assignment, bring it and we'll dig in together.
Sessions can be over video call with a shared whiteboard, or in person if you're local. I respond quickly to messages and I'm happy to do a short intro call first if you want to make sure it's a good fit before booking a full session.
