About Ridmika
Hey there, I'm Ridmika Wickramarachchi, and I'm thrilled to share my journey as a physicist, educator, and someone who's always seeking to uncover the mysteries of the world around us.
My Education:
I proudly hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from University College London, where I graduated with first-class honours in July 2023. My passion for understanding the universe has been a driving force throughout my academic career. Before that, I attended Elizabeth Moir Senior School in Colombo, Sri Lanka, where I achieved top-notch A* grades in both A-Levels (4A*) and IGCSEs (7A*).
Teaching and Empowerment:
What truly lights up my day is teaching. As a private tutor, I've had the incredible privilege of simplifying complex physics and math concepts for A-level and GCSE students. My approach involves adapting to each student's unique learning style, and yes, I've even used football to explain statistics to a year 6 student! Seeing my students improve by at least 20% in their grades and building relationships based on trust and respect is what keeps me going.
Exploring the Unknown:
My journey has taken me beyond the classroom, too. During my internship at Unilever in Manila, Philippines, I honed my research skills, working on improving deodorant texture and fragrance. My time as a research intern at Genetech in Colombo, Sri Lanka, allowed me to dive deep into DNA extraction, PCR techniques, and gel electrophoresis, expanding my scientific toolkit.
Beyond Academics:
Off the academic path, I'm also an avid football player. Representing both my high school and university teams has taught me the importance of teamwork, discipline, and embracing challenges head-on. Additionally, contributing to community service projects has shown me the impact we can make when we come together.
