About Sam
I'm Sam, an engineer turned data scientist with a genuine love of teaching. I earned my BEng in Chemical Engineering and practised as an engineer before moving to the UK, where I completed an MSc in Data Science with Distinction in 2024.
Alongside my technical career, I work in secondary schools every day, supporting students across subjects and year groups. That daily classroom experience means I'm comfortable with every kind of learner: the anxious, the bored, the bright-but-coasting, and I know how to meet each one where they are.
What sets me apart is that I've used this knowledge in the real world. When I teach Maths, it's from someone who used it to run engineering processes. When I teach data skills, it's from someone who retrained and knows exactly what the industry expects. Students don't just learn the content with me, they learn why it matters.
Patient, organised and honest about progress: if something isn't working, we change the approach until it does.

I hold a BEng in Chemical Engineering and an MSc in Data Science (Distinction), and I work in secondary schools every day as a cover supervisor, so I know exactly where students get stuck, how exam boards phrase questions, and how to keep a lesson engaging rather than a lecture.
My approach: I start by finding the gap, not the symptom. If a student struggles with rearranging equations in Chemistry, the real issue is often the underlying maths — so we fix that first. Every lesson mixes short explanation, worked examples, and the student doing the work themselves while I guide. You learn by doing, not by watching me.
Lesson structure: Lessons are 60 minutes: a quick recap of last session, new material with worked examples, then exam-style practice. I set short, focused tasks between lessons and track progress against the exam specification.
Who I teach: GCSE and A-level Maths, Chemistry and Science; KS3 students building foundations.
First lesson is about understanding where you are and where you need to be. We build the plan together.
