Dedicated and skilled tutor with 5 years of experience helping students reach their academic goals and boost confidence. Highly adept at developing innovative and creative teaching methods and interactive lesson plans to meet the needs of all my students. In addition, I foster a positive learning environment by actively listening to students' learning concerns, providing encouragement, and helping them improve subject comprehension. One of my biggest strengths is my ability to guide students to problem-solve independently by having them use their prior knowledge as building blocks to apply to new concepts.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

When I was younger, math was the easiest subject for me to understand; however, many of my friends and classmates really struggled. I would often help them by explaining how to get to the answer, any patterns I noticed, or any tricks that helped me remember the formulas and steps. At times, I would even spend hours on the phone with friends to explain the math homework. Through these couple of minutes that I spent explaining, I could see a big weight of pressure and confusion be relieved from my peers' expressions. They slowly began to understand a little bit better, even improving their scores on tests. The biggest event that made me realize that I would be a good tutor was, in freshman year, I helped a good friend raise their 20% average to almost 85%. They kept scoring better and better on the tests, which made me extremely happy to see their improvement and success, as well as proud for playing a role in that development.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach literature and math, specializing in middle school to algebra levels. In literature, I enjoy exploring storytelling, symbolism, and character development, while in math, I find joy in problem-solving and practical applications. I love discussing hobbies like poetry, martial arts, and music with my students, fostering connections beyond the curriculum. My goal is to inspire a deeper appreciation for both subjects and encourage critical thinking skills that extend to all aspects of life.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My AP Government teacher holds a special place in my heart as well. He continuously encouraged and inspired me, emphasizing that learning is a lifelong journey and reminding me of the significance of our shared humanity. His mentorship went beyond the subject matter, instilling in me a sense of curiosity and a commitment to continuous growth. If I ever pursue a career in teaching, he's the role model I aspire to emulate - someone who not only imparts knowledge but also genuinely cares about his students, their dreams, and their journey toward achieving them.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

An essential quality of a good tutor is not just imparting knowledge but also instilling confidence in students. It's about fostering a belief that they possess the building blocks to tackle any problem, even if it requires trial and error. Encouraging students to trust in their abilities and reassuring them that mistakes are part of the learning process can significantly boost their self-assurance and motivation. This mindset empowers students to approach challenges with resilience and perseverance, ultimately leading to greater success in their academic endeavors.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at scho

Focus on what you know, not on what you don't, and use that knowledge as a stepping stone to reach a new perspective.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

As a tutor, one of the challenges I've faced is perfectionism. I've found that striving for perfection can hinder the learning process by instilling a fear of making mistakes and taking risks. It's essential to embrace the learning journey, understanding that mistakes are valuable opportunities for growth.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I'm deeply passionate about fostering a love for learning and empowering students to realize their full potential, both academically and personally. It's incredibly rewarding to play a role in shaping their journey of growth and discovery. My particular passion extends beyond teaching and delves into poetry. There's something uniquely enriching about exploring the language and emotion found in poetry. Poetry provides a profound avenue for self-expression and introspection.
  • What makes you a Superprof?

What makes me a Superprof is my dedication to empowering students to reach their full potential. With a passion for teaching and a commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment, I strive to inspire confidence, ignite curiosity, and instill a lifelong love for learning in every student I work with. By tailoring my approach to meet the unique needs of each individual and offering guidance with patience and empathy, I aim to make a meaningful difference in their academic journey.
