About Joshua
I enjoyed my secondary education at Harrogate Grammar School and achieved excellent GCSE results followed by the highest possible grades in my chosen A levels of Maths, Further Maths and Physics. During my time there, I also took part in numerous bands and other musical ensembles both in and outside of the school. At the University of York, I read Physics and obtained a high first class degree. Whilst there, I continued with my music: playing or singing in musicals, performing with the opera society and a gospel choir, as well as undertaking the role of Press and Publicity Officer for the Concert Band Society committee. In addition, I was a diligent member of my college hockey team. In my second year, I became very interested in the idea of becoming an educator and so volunteered as part of the York Students in Schools programme. My main role was to answer pupils’ questions; this furthered my interest in and experience of one-to-one explanation. I met my wife at university and since graduating we married and have settled in London, where she is the Numeracy and R.E. leader of an outstanding primary school.

I find I can relate to students in a calm and patient manner and I have enjoyed helping them through difficulties with their subjects. I endeavour to find and solve the problems students have in their understanding to give them a firmer grasp of the topic in hand, with the benefits from this being increased confidence and improved results. They and their parents have offered positive feedback from the results attained after my tuition including a great improvement in their grade and confidence. I have a strong desire to enable maximum achievement, and am enthusiastic about praising students who make progress towards that goal.
