About Kumarjit
Hi, I'm Kumarjit, an engineer, AI researcher, and lifelong lover of mathematics and science. I grew up excelling in these subjects, scoring 99% in Mathematics and 96% in Science at secondary school, before earning a place at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, widely regarded as one of Asia's most prestigious and competitive universities, where I graduated with a CGPA of 9.21 out of 10. I am currently deepening my expertise through a Master's in Artificial Intelligence at Monash University here in Melbourne.
But academic results only tell part of the story. What genuinely draws me to tutoring is the moment a concept clicks for a student, that shift from confusion to clarity that no exam score can quite capture. During my time at IIT Kharagpur, I worked as a Teaching Assistant in two formal roles: supervising undergraduate students through hands-on electronics lab sessions, and designing tests and assessments for a biomedical engineering course. Those experiences taught me that great teaching is less about delivering information and more about asking the right questions at the right time.
I also led a research project in collaboration with the University of Auckland, building an Augmented Reality application to teach physics to secondary school students. Watching students engage with difficult concepts in a new way, and seeing their exam results improve reinforced my belief that the how of teaching matters just as much as the what.
Outside academia, I spent multiple years as a Software Engineer at Honeywell, where mentoring junior colleagues was a regular part of my role. I'm patient, structured, and deeply invested in every student's progress.

I hold a Dual Degree from IIT Kharagpur (CGPA 9.21/10) and am currently pursuing a Master's in Artificial Intelligence at Monash University. As a former Teaching Assistant at IIT Kharagpur, where I supervised undergraduate lab sessions and designed assessments, I bring both deep subject knowledge and genuine classroom experience to every tutoring session.
My lessons are tailored to each student's pace and learning style. I begin by identifying gaps in understanding rather than just covering syllabus content, then build concepts progressively using worked examples, visual explanations, and physical applications. For mathematics and algorithms, I emphasize logical reasoning and problem-solving patterns over memorization. For physics and statistics, I focus on building intuition first, then formalizing it with theory and calculation.
Lessons are typically one hour long, though I am flexible for students who need shorter sessions or extended problem-solving practice closer to exams. I am comfortable teaching both online (via Zoom or Google Meet, with interactive whiteboards and screen sharing) and in person across Clayton area.
My tutoring is suited to high school students from Year 7 through to VCE (Year 11 and 12), with a particular focus on Mathematics, Physics, and Algorithms. I have scored 99% in Mathematics and 96% in Science at secondary level, and my teaching experience spans both formal academic roles and professional mentoring across a 4 year engineering career at Honeywell.
