Students read something they are interested in, out loud, to me. The preference is history or science, on their grade level. If they are not reading on grade level , we do not sweat it. We will read the first book and then check the grade level again. Lather , rinse, repeat; as they say. They talk to me about it what they have read. We work on writing what they have told me.
