About Heather
Teaching, for me, is all about helping students. I believe positivity and kindness/patience are paramount, especially for students who lack confidence in their language abilities. For higher level students, I think lessons offering the opportunity to expand vocabulary through interesting conversational topics is important (e.g. politics, history, philosophy, anthropology, etc.). My background and knowledge of French and German aid me in explaining various facets of the English language, as well as having an understanding of the difficulties students face when learning a second language.

Students learn optimally by SPEAKING and listening before reading and writing. I give particular attention to a student's individual needs with a focus on FLUENCY. I use English File, online resources, as well as grammar and vocabulary workbooks. I believe lessons are to be varied, fun and provide students with the necessary language skills to converse in everyday situations. I teach all levels ESL and have experience of teaching all levels. I am a qualified French and German teacher and have specialized in ESL after gaining the TESOL qualification. I have taught in two private English schools as well as independently online or face-to-face.
I also teach children school English up to GCSE level. Students need help with the basics initially, such as spelling, punctuation and grammar, before they can master creative writing and analysis of literature. I always provide lessons tailored to each student, making their progress and confidence my focus.
