Hello! My name is Rachel and I've been an educator for over twenty years. I've worked with students ages two - twelve, tutoring a variety of subjects, and have helped individuals gain confidence in their work.
As an educator, I strive to make learning fun. I learn the unique traits of each student and kindly push their learning using their interests and skill set.
Builiding relationships is key. If students and their families feel misunderstood or not heard, finding success can be a real struggle. Forming strong and trustworthy relationships that engage the child's interest and/or family's culture help learning happen and the child feel successful in his/her learning. I hope I can help you find success!
One of my favorite things to experience is my student's success. Having the "light bulb" moment is incredibly satisfying. But it's more satisfying to realize that you've helped another person become confident, understand something complex, and feel success within themselves.
As a professional educator, I wear multiple hats. I am a teacher and a student as we learn alongside each other. I am a partner and a playmate as we build our relationship together. I am a friend and collaborator as we grow our compromise and trust. Teachers cannot teach without a student's trust and a student cannot learn without a teacher's patience and respect for the individual. The act of teaching, learning, creativity, innovation, challenges, curiosity, and fun creates a warm and curiosity driven atmosphere.
My teaching and learning experiences have helped me find success with every single student I've had the privilege to work with. I hope I have the opportunity to find success with you!

When meeting a new student, the first thing I will do is say hello! Forming a trustworthy relationship is the key to a student's success. To accomplish this goal, I might ask the student to share some of his/her favorite things, their hobbies, strong interests, etc. This information will help me form the style of teaching that I will use in our sessions.
Next, I will assess the student and see where his/her learning challenges lie. For this portion, I'll interview the student to hear what they believe their struggles are. I will then combine the information provided to me by the parent(s) with information the student shared and any data I received by my own assessment.
Then, we will make a plan together. We will need to decide on a schedule, length of time, and rate of pay. My pay rate usually changes in the type and amount of work involved like prep work, research, or lesson planning.
Finally, we'd start working! This process can usually occur within 1-3 sessions, depending on the work involved, and how interested the student is in receiving tutoring. A student's interest is key to learning and receiving help. If he/she does not want tutoring, it can make the entire process less successful. I've counteracted that lack of interest by building strong relationships and trust. I'd like to show you how I work.
