About Rachel
I am extremely interested in continuing my work as a psychology teacher, especially by providing one-to-one support where teaching can have a huge impact on a students’ future.
I have gained almost 8 years of teaching experience including both GCSE and A Level psychology and have taught across a diverse range of educational settings, ranging from a college, grammar school and comprehensive school. The experience has enhanced my teaching practice and an ability to adapt to different student and departmental needs. My position currently is a classroom teacher of psychology and a form tutor for Year 12 at Chadwell Heath Academy, however I also have experience of working as a Head of Psychology, together with other specialised roles, including an interventions officer for the sixth form and SEN teaching assistant for children with autism.
I am fortunate to have been provided with an excellent opportunity to work on a one-to-one basis at Wilmington Grammar School for Boys within my role as an interventions officer. Being able to provide this level of support ensured that the students who were struggling and not reaching their target grades were successful and this was reflected in their final results. One student moved from an E grade at A2 psychology to a B grade overall, which was an excellent achievement. I am enthusiastic about helping students reach their potential in their academic studies, together with their own personal development. Working as a personal tutor also allows me to identify any learning difficulties or barriers which students may have, especially when teaching research methods! It also provides an opportunity to build rapport and help identify a students’ strengths and weaknesses in their own skills and knowledge and then to develop these further.
My duties and experience have included teaching a variety of subjects at different levels from ages 14 years to adulthood, planning and preparing high quality schemes of work and lesson plans, introducing tracking and monitoring systems to record student progress, developing interventions accordingly to promote academic success and administrative tasks. Others areas of my work as a teacher have included a pastoral role in supporting learners and findings ways to accommodate individual needs through different learning plans and providing workshops for further support students. The experience has assisted me in meeting student’s own personal goals and development, together with improving my communication and organisational skills. Due to the nature of my work experiences and personal caring nature, I automatically recognise and value contributions made by all staff towards the challenges of education and the promotion of creating a positive learning environment and experience for everyone concerned.
I have also worked as a Year 12 and Year 13 form tutor and provided guidance through helping with career and choices in further studies, together with feedback on personal statements for their UCAS applications. I have also had experience of working as an AQA examiner and therefore have developed an excellent understanding of interpreting and developing effective examination techniques.
On a personal level, I am extremely passionate and enthusiastic about my subject and have shown a continued interest in teaching which has also been evidence in my continued work as a voluntary dance teacher for 16 years, where I teach children from as young as 3 years to 18 years. I have an excellent understanding of pedagogy and the strategies required for ensuring that all students are differentiated and I firmly believe that each child has the ability of successfully achieving through encouraging self-motivation. I also believe that as a teacher it is important to promote and enhance independent learning in students and to equip them with the tools they need for their future, both for further education and the workplace. I feel that high expectations can be met through the hard work and determination of all those involved. However, I am very kind and empathetic towards students and the challenges they face at this level of study and provide a positive and encouraging environment so that both the tutor and student can build an excellent working relationship. I am happy to devote the time and as much help and support I can through any resources, examplar work, etc to help students gain confidence in their own abilities and strongly believe that they can achieve if they apply themselves.
My areas of interest and hobbies are that of dance and musical theatre. I have also worked as a choreographer to a local musical theatre company and even managed to perform on the west end stage myself!
I hope therefore that on consideration of my qualifications and experience you will be persuaded of my potential to continue to provide a high standard of teaching.

I have been working with Rachel now for over 16 years. She is professional, courteous, passionate and friendly in her teaching. I would recommend her to anyone who needs a tutor, especially those that are lacking in confidence and/or self-esteem.
Rachel worked with Students of all abilities in my school. I thoroughly endorse Rachel as a tutor. She has excellent knowledge of the syllabus and the standards required to achieve top grades. Rachel is open and approachable and very ambitious for her pupils. Her ability to engage with her classes and individuals is excellent due to her attention to detail, thoughtful approach and caring nature.
