About Lori

Let's start at the beginning... (nonlinear narrative arcs are for another lesson day). Growing up with an executive mother and an artist father shaped my eclectic childhood. As the first American in my French family, I navigated the vibrant worlds of New York and Paris. My upbringing in Soho and my time at the French consulate instilled in me a deep appreciation for culture and art. School became my sanctuary, a place where I thrived on curiosity. I often snuck into the teacher's lounge during recess to ask questions, absorbing knowledge like a sponge. After prep school, I pursued psychology and writing at Sarah Lawrence College, followed by an 'Arts in Context' program at The New School, allowing me to study and work simultaneously. By 20, I curated my first solo art show and went on to work in prestigious galleries across Manhattan, while consulting in London, Korea, and Paris. After 15 years in art administration, I turned to my true passion: writing. A recently published short story solidified my commitment to this path. Currently, I’m working on my first novel—an exciting challenge that reflects my dedication. In this journey, I have collaborated with other writers, using my tutoring platform to help edit, give literary analysis and advice, and even translate finished works. My tutoring journey began years ago when friends and family sought my help, inspired by my passion for learning. I developed a unique system called Tailored Tutoring: blending effective techniques with my experience as a gallery curator. Just as a curator highlights the strengths of an artist while crafting a cohesive narrative, I focus on each student's unique qualities while honing in on areas for improvement. One size does not fit all. Now, with experience in hand, my technique solidified, and the long research phase of my novel providing a flexible schedule, I have decided to expand from word-of-mouth, which was quite successful, to seeing if others out there might require my services. I work with a diverse range of students—from adults seeking conversational French, to middle schoolers tackling book reports, and high schoolers preparing college essays or improving GPAs. I've successfully guided students back on track in as little as 40 days. While math and science aren't my specialties, I concentrate on what I love and am expert in, anything less would be dishonest and unfair to my clients. My goal is to instill self-belief in my students, whether it's confidently ordering in a French café, submitting an essay with pride, or finally being able to raise their hand in their Cinema Analysis 101 course and state their opinion. Tailored Tutoring also emphasizes long-term success, addressing challenges beyond academics. I incorporate life skills into my sessions, offering strategies for time management, academic anxiety, and self-doubt. My network of professionals supports me in guiding students through more specific challenges. I am fully committed to your success. Sometimes, all it takes is the right person to reassure a student that they can succeed. Whether you choose me as your tutor or not, believe this: you can and will succeed. Your commitment to improvement—evident in your reading these words right now—says it all. Rest assured, you will succeed! I am certain. And the best part? Those reasons for my certainty are the same reasons I’m excited to embark on this journey with you—let's light that fire of discovery together!

"Education is not the filling of a pot but the lighting of a fire." – W.B. Yeats. True learning goes beyond rote memorization; it's about sparking curiosity and inspiring personal growth. It begins by understanding that every student is unique. Whether it's honing specific skills, getting back on track academically, or balancing personal challenges with educational goals, my approach is tailored to meet individual needs. With a commitment to break free from the "one size fits all" model, I focus on what truly works for each student. Getting Started: I begin with an initial meeting, covering areas of difficulty and areas of strength. More importantly, I focus on what YOU want to get out of your time. From there I curate your lesson plan with set goal markers*, chosen study materials, along with frequency & length of sessions. The student and/or guardian then goes through my proposal, makes any queries or additions, and once all are excited with the plan... We ignite! *NOTE* Depending on your situation, these markers may coincide with exams or assignments within your academic setting, leaving enough time to ensure your absolute preparedness. Together, we’ll create a customized learning experience that not only enhances academic performance but also fosters long-term success. Let's work together and start a new chapter that will fuel you or your student for years to come! (Grade/Age dependent on area(s) of study. Flexible schedule. Please inquire for more information.)
