My approach to tutoring is centred around clarity, confidence-building, and adapting to each student’s individual learning style. I aim to create a structured but flexible environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and actively engaging with the material.
In 1 hour lessons, I focus on breaking down complex topics into simple, manageable steps, ensuring students fully understand the foundations before moving on. I use a combination of explanation, worked examples, and guided practice, followed by independent questions to reinforce learning. Regular retrieval practice and spaced repetition are key parts of my approach, helping students retain information long-term rather than just memorising it short-term.
For GCSE and KS3 students, I also incorporate exam-style questions early on, teaching not just content but also technique—how to interpret questions, structure answers, and avoid common mistakes. I adapt my teaching pace depending on the student, whether they need more support with fundamentals or more challenge to stretch high performance.
have experience tutoring at GCSE and KS3 level, including working closely with my brother, who attends Merchant Taylors’ School on a 50% scholarship. Supporting him has given me insight into high academic standards and selective school expectations, as well as how to balance depth of understanding with exam performance. This has helped me develop effective strategies for both reinforcing core knowledge and pushing students towards top grades.
