About James
With a decade of experience across both academia and industry—applying core mathematics, physics, and electronic principles daily—I bring real-world understanding to my teaching. I’ve also had the privilege of mentoring Graduate and Junior Engineers, explaining complex principles in clear, personalised ways that match each learner’s unique style (who have each grown to have very successful engineering careers of their own).
I've built satellites in the UK for earth observation purposes deployed in Low-Earth Orbit as well as systems design to operate deep under the sea!
Being dyslexic has given me a unique perspective, presenting particular challenges throughout my career that I’ve overcome through perseverance and determination. It has pushed me to recognise and build on my strengths, understand my preferred learning styles, and develop effective strategies to manage my weaknesses—both in individual work and in collaborative projects. I now enjoy sharing these insights with other dyslexic learners, offering practical tips and techniques that have genuinely helped me succeed.

My teaching style is centred around each student’s individual learning preferences, using the VARK model (Visual, Auditory, Reading/Writing, and Kinaesthetic learning) to make lessons enjoyable and engaging—greatly improving both comprehension and retention.
The lessons can be exam focused for students gearing up for their mocks or exams and want to insure the best chance of a good result.
I break topics down to their foundations, identify the exact point where understanding begins to slip, correct it clearly, and then rebuild the concept step by step. This creates a complete mental model the student can “unfold” whenever needed, meaning they don’t have to rely on memorising intrinsic properties—they truly understand them and can derive results for themselves. This approach helps students move beyond memorisation and achieve deep comprehension, even with challenging topics such as Lagrange multipliers or Fourier transforms.
Lessons are typically one hour, but I’m flexible and happy to adjust the length to suit each student’s needs.
