I help students create scaffolding to get a high-level view of the particular topic. With this structure in place, students can attach new information. Connections between ideas make this information retrievable and therefore functional.
I also build a foundation for learning through developing skills in executive functioning, such as time management, organization, and goal development as well as other habits involving sleep, nutrition, and stress management.
Part of this foundation also includes the expansion of communication skills. Building relationships with others and participating in groups is not only necessary for learning, but also a requirement for success in any career.
Lastly, I feel it is important to get feedback from parents as well as students. I approach each session as a learning opportunity for myself. I am always looking for new ways of doing things and figuring out how to customize each session to fit the needs of the student and family as a whole.
