About Kevin
I bring a strong combination of academic training, professional experience, and classroom teaching to my tutoring. I hold a Master’s degree in Applied Statistics and a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics from Howard University. I currently work as a Mathematical Statistician at the United States Census Bureau, where I apply statistical methods and data analysis to large-scale national datasets.
In addition to my professional work, I have several years of teaching experience. I taught mathematics for five years in public schools with District of Columbia Public Schools and two years in a private special education school. These experiences helped me develop the patience and flexibility needed to explain complex ideas in ways that make sense to different learners.
Students and parents can expect professionalism, clear communication, and a supportive learning environment. I believe that every student can improve in mathematics and statistics when concepts are explained clearly and when they are given the right tools to think through problems independently.
I tutor students at all levels, including high school, college, and graduate programs. I can also assist with statistical software such as Excel, R, and SAS, and help students understand how to apply statistical methods to real-world data and research projects.
My goal is not only to help students complete assignments or prepare for exams, but also to build confidence and lasting understanding in mathematics and statistics.

My approach to tutoring focuses on helping students truly understand the concepts behind mathematics and statistics rather than simply memorizing formulas. With a Master’s degree in Statistics and a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics from Howard University, along with over 10 years of experience working as a Mathematical Statistician with the government, I bring both academic knowledge and real-world experience to every lesson.
Teaching Method and Techniques
I focus on breaking complex ideas into clear, manageable steps. Many students struggle with math and statistics because the concepts build on one another. My goal is to identify where the confusion starts and rebuild that foundation so the student can move forward confidently. I also use practical examples and real-world data whenever possible so students can see how mathematics and statistics apply beyond the classroom.
I encourage students to ask questions, explain their thinking, and work through problems step-by-step so they gain confidence in their ability to solve problems independently.
Typical Lesson Plan
A typical lesson may include:
Reviewing homework or challenging problems from class
Explaining the underlying concept in a clear and structured way
Working through several guided examples together
Allowing the student to solve similar problems with my support
Reviewing strategies for approaching similar questions on exams or assignments
For statistics students, I also help with interpreting results, understanding statistical tests, and using tools such as Excel, R, or statistical software when needed.
What Sets Me Apart
What sets me apart is my combination of teaching experience and professional statistical work. I have taught mathematics in both public and private school settings and have spent over a decade applying statistical methods in a real-world research environment. This allows me to connect theory with practical applications, helping students understand not only how to perform calculations but also why the methods work and when to use them.
Who My Lessons Are For
I work with a wide range of students, including:
High school students taking Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus or Calculus.
College students taking Statistics, Calculus, or quantitative courses
Graduate students who need help with research methods, regression, or statistical analysis
Students working on projects, theses, or data analysis assignments
