About Maria
I am an experienced mathematics teacher with over 18 years of tutoring and 13 years of classroom teaching across Canada, Europe, and Africa. I have taught students from early primary through to first-year university, with a particular focus on high school mathematics and exam preparation.
I hold a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education, where my research focused on teaching through problem-solving and helping students develop deeper understanding while reducing math anxiety.
My approach is centred on making mathematics clear and accessible. I help students build confidence, think logically, and develop the skills needed to tackle challenging problems independently. Whether preparing for exams or strengthening foundational skills, I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making real progress.

In my teaching, I focus on engaging students through problem-solving and meaningful learning activities. In one-on-one or small group settings, I tailor each lesson to meet the individual needs and goals of the student.
I teach for deep understanding rather than rote memorization, helping students truly grasp the “why” behind the mathematics. A key part of my approach is reducing the fear and anxiety that many students experience, and replacing it with confidence and a sense of progress.
With experience across a wide range of mathematical levels, I work closely with students to identify gaps in their understanding, strengthen foundational skills, and build the confidence they need to succeed independently.

Perfect! She was able to simplify difficult equations for me to learn. Very organized and dedicated to teaching and was also willing to go above and beyond.
