Would you like to learn Spanish and start speaking the language from the very first class? Tired of not being able to say anything in spite of having completed a lot of grammar exercises? Then my classes are for you! I’m a certified English-Spanish translator and I’ve been teaching languages at companies for more than 10 years. I’ve also studied to become an interpreter and I have a BA in Sociology. I'm passionate about what I do and I love helping students brush up their communication skills. In my classes, students complete reading and grammar exercises, but I try to focus on the speaking part, so that they can express their feelings and opinions in a given situation. In addition, I write down some of the mistakes that they make while they speak and at the end of the class I give them some feedback so that they are able to monitor their progress. I’d say my classes are fun and relaxed, but at the same time I’ll always make sure you learn something every time we meet. I look forward to seeing you soon! :) Pilar Key points about the classes: *Fun and dynamic lessons. *Emphasis on conversation. *Customized classes. *Detailed feedback during and at the end of the class. *Homework to revise what you’ve learned. *Free session and placement test Please notice that during the first class you will be asked to speak about different topics so that I can assess your speaking skills. This is also a great opportunity to talk about your objectives and expectations.

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I was born in Buenos Aires (Argentina), so that's why I speak the language fluently. In addition, I'm passionate about languages in general, and I have a degree in translation and a certificate in simultaneous interpreting.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

The first person that comes to mind is Gabriel García Márquez, a famous Colombian writer who wrote a lot of novels and short stories which offer a glimpse into Latin American culture and identity.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

I love the phrase "No dejes para mañana lo que puedas hacer hoy", which can be translated as "don´t put off until tomorrow what you can do today." So if you've always wanted to learn Spanish, it's time to book a class and start speaking the language :)
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

I love the language not only because it is spoken by 575 million people around the world, but also because Spanish speakers tend to be kind, sociable and enjoy life even in the face of adversity. This is something that I've noticed in all the countries I've visited where Spanish is the mother tongue (Spain, Mexico, Chile, Uruguay and Argentina, where I live).
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

In my experience, English speakers find it difficult to use the subjunctive in the right way, memorize conjugations and identify the gender of nouns. I think this obstacle can be overcome if you not only memorize the grammar rules, but also use the grammar structures when you speak in class. So, for example, you can first read a unit about conjugations in the past, and then we can have an interesting conversation about your last summer vacation or the last time you went out at night. In addition, your teacher should make sure you revise the topics from time to time; if not, you will quickly forget what you've learnt!
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

I still laugh when I think about my English lessons at primary school: thirty children in one classroom learning the present simple for the 100th time, and not being able to speak fluently at all. Fortunately, I went to language schools and also had private tutors to help me speak English, so that made me realize that classes have to be tailored to students' needs, and that people should spend at least 50% of the class speaking if they really want to become fluent.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

I think travelling is essential if you want to learn the phrases native speakers use in their everyday life. When I was in Spain and in other Latin American countries I learnt a lot of funny colloquial expressions, and I also realized that it was necessary to study more to help my students understand the differences between Spanish dialects.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

I'm passionate about teaching and I love helping my students develop their communication skills. I always make sure we spend at least 50% of the class speaking, and then I give my students detailed feedback at the end of the class.

Last but not least, I would say my classes are fun and relaxed, and I always make sure my students learn something new every time we meet! :)
