About Thorsteinn
I am a student of English Literature at The Manchester Grammar School, in my final year of sixth-form education. I remember the ameliorating impact sixth-form students had upon my desire to read and write when I was younger, and now want to give others that same opportunity.
I have been volunteering with children of primary school age for years, helping them improve their literacy skills. And I have also helped my nine-year-old brother to overcome his fear of reading by holding entertaining one-to-one lessons with him. I enjoy working with younger children, but have found I can tutor even those older than myself quite well.

I teach how to enjoy reading, how to enjoy writing about the books you read; I teach how to read in an active sense without simply letting words on a page wash over you. I try to get my tutees to understand more complicated texts, and how to properly analyse the text being read.
I find that working across mediums (i.e. film or musical analysis) can be somewhat beneficial and often very engaging, but try to retain a sharp focus on the written word where I can.
All the while an informal atmosphere is maintained, as I believe this has a positive impact on a person's confidence and willingness to read and write.
