About Alex
I am a Sevenoaks School Academic Scholar and IB diploma graduate. I am a current 2nd year Biochemist at Durham University, scoring 1st's in Molecular Biology, Human Physiology and Genetics. I am also the Biochemistry course representative at Durham and my college's Student Welfare Officer.
Prior to University I achieved comfortable 7s in Biology and Chemistry HL. I was able to do so because of the supportive push of the excellent teachers I was lucky enough to have at secondary school, and it has been my goal for the past 1.5 years to emulate their professionalism and guide my own GCSE and A level students to spark success and enjoyment in one's studies.
I have proved my effectiveness as a tutor as I have helped boys in year 13 with current B-C predicted grades to achieve an A and A* in A level Chemistry (2024 exam season). Furthermore, I am currently working alongside two students in year 10, whom are definitively seeing a difference in their academic performance in class, and it has helped them most importantly, enjoy the subject.

My lessons are strictly 1 hour long. However, on top of this I write in-depth revision notes and curate personalised homework, delivered within 1 hour after the lesson, containing a mixture of past-paper questions and textbook exercises designed for my student to practice and nail the applications of the taught concepts. I handwrite the diagrams and notes for the student to consolidate their knowledge after the lesson and apply it in the homework I set them. Undoubtedly these notes will be relevant and helpful for the student at school.
I am passionate about the wellbeing and academic success of each student I work with, and I expect a decisiveness from them to do their homework and send their answers back for me to mark and explain where gaps in knowledge or understanding may be. I also aim to set exams after every 6-7 weeks to mark the end of each school term, where I compile exam questions into a 1 hour test so that myself, the student, and the student's parents can monitor their child's progress.
It may sound as if I am a demanding tutor, which is true, I am. From my own experience as a student and a tutor, I am fully aware that top performing students get to where they are with supportive, yet firm teaching. I expect my student to learn, apply what they learn, and achieve. It is what I have successfully helped many students with and I hope to help my students feel proud of their achievements as a product of their hard work.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Having seen Alex teach students across multiple different levels and age groups, I can comfortably say that he engages students, can explain complex ideas/theories coherently and motivates his students in order for them to succeed in the subject. Having great lesson plans combined with his ability to adapt to the students learning style, allows him to get the very best out of every student he teaches.
If I’m looking for moral support, Alex is my go-to guy. What I’ve really come to appreciate about him is his commitment to discipline. He’s a great friend and having had some experience tutoring myself, I can always vouch for Alex knowing that he possesses the qualities of a top-notch tutor.

To be clear, £45 per lesson includes one hour of teaching, 30-45 mins of homework and exam grade handwritten notes to help with the homework and to integrate into the pupil's own notes.
I happily receive the completed homework and write up solutions. The homework helps me gauge the pupil's understanding. This helps me plan future lessons to ensure full comprehension and ability to apply in their exams.
