I have more than 20 years experience teaching English, research writing, rhetoric, literature, and guiding other students like YOU on their quest for academic success. My teaching methodology is informal yet engaging. I believe in tailoring my course instruction style to meet the needs of my students. I strongly believe that each student has different needs, goals, and learn in different ways. I want you to feel comfortable, asks questions, and understand that this is a safe space to discuss your ideas.
The following is an example of one of my writing lessons. For this lesson, we will discuss paragraph development. In paragraph development, it is important to “know” your topic. What is it that you are writing about? What is it that you want to learn? What is it that you believe other readers need to know? The goal is to write a clear thesis statement that is engaging to your audience. After you create your thesis statement, it is important to develop underlying ideas. Next, you must support these ideas with evidence. As you write, remember this…revision is the key!
My writing lessons involve building critical thinking skills, problem-solving, conducting research, learning how to document according to the discipline, and academic writing. My writing lessons also include editing and proofreading, style and formatting, and grammar.
My lessons in literature involve explication, thesis development, historical background of the text and author, comparative literature, and the use of literary devices. I specialize in Modern and Postmodern American literature but have experience teaching early World Literature as well.
For my dissertation lessons, I assist with organization, research methodology, analysis, literature reviews, and proofreading and editing the each chapter.
