About Sarah
English literature, particularly poetry and critical theory, is a great passion of mine. As a tutor, I focus on making writing and analysis feel engaging and accessible by connecting them to each student’s own interests and instincts. For many students, trying to write or interpret texts the “correct” way can feel stressful and unclear. I work instead to help students develop a sense of personal voice and analytical intuition, so that their ideas feel grounded, purposeful, and confident. I think reading and writing can be fun and challenging at the same time!

I have my BAH in English literature and am continuing my education at Queen's for my BEd. I have experience tutoring high school students in challenging texts, particularly those in the IB program preparing for IAs and exams. In my lessons, I first spend time getting to know your strengths and where you struggle to develop a personalized plan for success.
In terms of methodology, I tend to break things down step by step. For essay writing, that often means working through how to interpret prompts, develop a thesis, and organize ideas before moving into sentence-level clarity and style. For literary analysis, I emphasize close reading, paying attention to language, patterns, and detail, and helping students connect those observations to larger arguments. I also adapt depending on the student: some need help generating ideas, others need help refining and structuring what they already have.
