About Jack
I am a recent 2:1 graduate in history and economics from Oxford University who is keen to help new students meet their potential. Throughout my degree I have written an essay and solved a mathematical problem sheet each week, maintaining the skills to be able to tutor a range of subjects. I have really enjoyed my degree because of that variety and the focus on discussing the big questions of how modernity emerged. I hope to convey some of that passion for learning through my tutoring.
Having learnt and revised material for GCSEs, A-levels and my degree using flashcards and past papers I am keen to help others achieve excellent results too. My tutoring experience includes lessons with a Year 9 student in maths, teaching some new material and reinforcing topics from school with additional practice. I focussed on building confidence in the key topics that underly the work they are doing at school.

When tutoring to reinforce and then move beyond concepts learnt at school, I have found it best to use online resources to explain an idea before working on short but stretching questions collaboratively on the online whiteboard. By having a clear topic and then following up with a short series of questions practised independently (in the lesson or as a homework), I have seen clearly improved confidence and results. I hope to see similar success working with you! I am also keen to engage with students and parents to tailor the focus of my tutoring on supporting or supplementing topics from school without unnecessary duplication.
In sessions focused on revision, I look to take a collaborative approach, working through queries about technique, suggesting resources, and then completing or marking past papers together. Again, I would be keen to engage with students to discover which revision techniques are most effective for them.

I think Jack is a trustworthy tutor because he is hard working and committed to any projects he undertakes. He demonstrated these qualities during his time as head boy at his school and more recently in his studies at Oxford University which resulted in him achieving a 2:1. He has combined tutoring with his studies over the last three years.
