About Madelyn
Hello! My name is Madelyn and I'm a recent graduate from UCSB with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and a minor in Statistical Sciences. My academic journey, which began during the pandemic and transitioned back to in-person learning with increasingly challenging classes, has taught me valuable study techniques and methods. Having recently navigated the academic world myself, I understand how difficult and demanding it can be, and I am dedicated to helping and supporting you through it.
My approach to tutoring is grounded in patience, clarity, and adaptability. I believe that every student has a unique learning style, and I strive to tailor my lessons to meet their individual needs. As someone who has been in the math department for a while now, it is clear what methods work and what do not. While quick memorization can help a student ace a test, it will not help them in long-term success. Foundational understanding is crucial to advancing in mathematics. My goal is to guide students to work independently, supporting them step by step, ensuring they understand the concepts and can apply them on their own.
A typical lesson plan begins with a brief review of previous material to ensure continuity and retention. This is followed by the introduction of new concepts, broken down into manageable segments. I encourage active participation and questions to keep students engaged. We then work through several practice problems together, gradually increasing in difficulty.
