About Jason
I've been teaching languages - Spanish and Latin specifically - for over 14 years, starting at the college level as part of my Master's experience, then moving to public, private and parochial junior and senior high schools. As an amateur linguist, I've had experience learning many languages and have some basic fluency in French, Portuguese, Italian, German, as well as advanced experience in Ancient Greek because of my classics degree.
Because of this experience, I know that acquiring a language can feel daunting - the first time we do anything, it can be scary! I aim to use my knowledge of how language works to make it as painless a process for the student as possible- and fun!

Hi, I'm Jason and I teach languages using Acquisition Driven Instruction, a fancy term that simply means that I teach so that the language becomes a part of who you are, not a list of vocab words or forms that you can recite and not really know the meaning of. That's how I was introduced to Latin and Spanish, and it doesn't really work! I had to take all my Latin classes in college twice - even with A+'s in all of them - for me to truly master the language! But I've vowed that students will not get that from me.
Instead, I present the language in small chunks with lots of visual aids and repetition so that learning the language is easy! Worried about speaking? You will have to speak - but my expectation is that you will do so with just one word responses to questions, until, with practice, you feel comfortable with more.
