About Rafael
I am a successful gigging bassist in New York City. I have been on tour and gigged with famous jazz musicians such as Dayna Stephens, Miguel Zenon, Kendrick Scott, Marc Carey, and Ingrid Jensen, as well as many people in the younger generation of musicians. Through working with these musicians, I have learned much about composition, theory, rhythm, and general musicality (the most important thing!). In my time as a musician, I've played at notorious stages such as Carnegie Hall, the Jazz Gallery, Ornithology, Dizzy's Club, Montreal Jazz Festival, and many other jazz festivals. I have about 15 years of experience in my field, and was a recipient of a full scholarship to get my master's degree from Manhattan School of Music, studying with bass legends Buster Williams and Jay Anderson. As a teacher, I have lectured at Ithaca College, the Eastman School of Music, Manhattan School of Music precollege, the Hochstein School of Music, and Opus Ithaca Jazz camp. I teach at a music program in Long Island City, working with large classes of children. Additionally, I usually have a small private studio of bassists, age and skill ranging.

-Technique
-Repertoire
These are applied to every skill level, and I love being able to adapt to each student.
