About Sharon
I am a primary school teacher, speaking two languages, French and English. I completed my Master of teaching at The University of Melbourne, and also have a bachelor degree in Commerce from Monash University. I always enjoyed working with young children, hence why I do this job. I am also a mum to two littlies, who is taking it all in and trying to enjoy parenthood as much as I can :)

My ultimate goal in providing lessons are to:
- Identify and address gaps/misconceptions in student's understandings
- Improve mathematical understanding of key concepts
- Equip students with effective strategies to solve problems
- Increase interest and confidence in doing Mathematics
- Achieve better results in Maths
My teaching approach
I always adapt my teaching style based on my students’ learning needs and preferences. For instance, to make learning more relevant and meaningful to them, I look at what students’ interests are, their learning pace, the mode of learning that they learn best from (whether they are visual learners, hands-on etc) and so forth. For younger grades, we do lots of activities and games to make learning more fun. For older primary, lessons are mostly student-led and I act more as a guide. I like when students and I both contribute to the lessons, as I find they are more engaged, it makes them more accountable, and the learning sticks better this way!
For group sessions, I mainly use open-ended questions/ tasks to differentiate learning so that each student can work at their own level.
What to expect in the sessions:
I will usually use the first lesson to get to know the student, find out what works best for them, and where they are at with their learning. Subsequent lessons are more or less as follows (flexible based on needs):
Lesson structure:
(1) Warm up- play a game/ activity as a recap for previous lesson
(2) Homework correction- to identify any further gaps in student's understanding
(3) Explicit instruction- Either address gaps by some explicit teaching and working through some more examples OR introduction of new topic
(4) Independent / guided task- some activities or games for student to demonstrate their understanding
(5) Close- reflection/ feedback + set homework
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
A friend of mine once told me: "Teaching is the process of attending to people’s needs, experiences and feelings, and intervening so that they learn particular things, and go beyond the given". I believe that Sharon has fully understood that quote and constantly challenges herself to be better at teaching.
Looking back at my experience with Sharon (for my son), it is clear that she knows how to make learning enjoyable using different methods and tools, such as games, storytelling, challenges, experiments, "real-life" examples or riddles. She had an overwhelming amount of patience with my son, and for that, I am grateful to her and feel blessed that I chose her to be the teacher for my child.
Sharon has my strong recommendation and I give her my highest recommendation, without reservation. She will be a credit to whoever she teaches. I hope this information proves helpful.View more recommendations
