About Mary
Hello again!
I wanted to take a moment to share my journey and what drives my passion for teaching and tutoring. From a very young age, I knew I wanted to be a teacher—it’s always been my dream to help others learn and grow. As I progressed through my own education, my love for the English language blossomed. I immersed myself in synthetic phonics courses and deepened my understanding of the English language through rigorous study led by expert educators. This passion led me to a career in literacy education, where I could share my enthusiasm for reading, writing, and comprehension with my students.
I believe that literacy is the foundation for all subject areas. When a student has a strong grasp of language, they can excel in every other field. This is why I am dedicated to helping students develop a robust understanding of the English language. Whether it's working with young children on basic phonics or supporting older students with more complex texts, I find immense joy in seeing their progress.
Ultimately, I believe that when you build a strong literacy foundation, you open doors to countless opportunities. My goal is to empower each student I work with, helping them become confident, capable learners who can tackle any challenge they encounter. Hello everyone!
My name is Mary, and I’m a fully qualified primary school teacher from Ireland, specialising in primary school literacy education. I am happy to offer personalised literacy tutoring to help you or your child with reading, writing, and comprehension, I also work with adults learning English!
My approach is all about catering to you or your child's unique learning style. I focus on key literacy skills such as decoding, reading fluency, phoneme awareness, dictation with accuracy, vocabulary development, spelling, and more. I use a multimodal approach to teaching and learning to ensure the learners is being taught in a way that suits them best. This might include a mix of visual aids, interactive exercises, and hands-on activities, making each lesson engaging and fun.
My goal is to bridge the gap between where your child is now and becoming a confident, competent, and independent learner. I aim to build their literacy skills not just for academic success but for everyday life. My tutoring isn't about long-term commitment, but rather providing the right amount of support to help you or your child to reach your full potiential.
Each session is typically between 30 minutes and an hour, depending on the age and focus area. This flexibility allows me to tailor each session to your child's learning needs.
