About Sandy

My promise to you, is a teacher you feel comfortable with, a fun atmosphere, strong results and individual approach! I have a degree in teaching primary and high school education from University San Carlos de Guatemala, as well as being ELE qualified to teach Spanish as a second language. I am also qualified to be an official examiner for DELE examinations. I love teaching my native language and sharing tips about my Latin American culture with my students. I also get a lot of satisfaction from helping my students reach their personal goals. Other than teaching I love to read and cook, especially making desserts! ¡Espero verte pronto! Sandy

¡Hola! My name is Sandy and I am a native Spanish-speaking teacher from Guatemala. I have taught for over 10 years in schools, universities and language institutions. At the moment I am the head teacher at the school, Spanish Marks. My students are all ages, from school students preparing for their GCSE or A-level Spanish, to professionals learning Spanish for their jobs or travel. I also tutor older students who want to take up Spanish as a hobby. I offer a first lesson for FREE! No commitment is needed. In the free lesson, you can see if you like me as a teacher and I can also assess your level. Following that, one-to-one lessons are from £12/lesson. I teach through an interactive online classroom where you can see and speak to me on-screen, and there are on-screen whiteboards. It is very flexible because you can learn from any location convenient for you! It is like being in a real classroom with me and after each lesson I give feedback reports, homework exercises and lesson chapters. Parents are welcome to sit in on any lessons.

Find out more about Sandy

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn? If origins, can you expand a bit about where you are from

  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

Miguel Ángel Asturias, who was a Guatemalan writer and journalist. He contributed to the development and literature in Latin American and his writings are considered as classics.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

Buena onda' is used a lot in Latin America and has a bit of a sixties surfer vibe to it. It means good vibes but you can use it for many different situations. It is a coloquial phrase but just has that nice relaxing feel to it.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Spanish is a language that is used all over the world. It opens the door to many opportunities around Europe and Latin America. It is also a beautiful language to learn.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

I think for many students it is the many rules that you have to learn. Sometimes students find it a bit overwhelming. That is why in my classes I like to teach you the rules but also incorporate a lot of conversation. That way slowly and slowly, the reason why you have to say a bit of grammar sticks in your head and it is a fun way of learning.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote/story/memory related to your language learning or your days at school.

I always had an issue with rolling my 'r' even though I am a native Spanish speaker. It is important in the language but not something that comes naturally to people. I had to practice and practice and now can roll them easily.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

Firstly you immerse yourself and grow a connection with the culture. That automatically makes you want to learn the language and you find it easier. It also opens up a huge amount of opportunities for you.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

Most importantly, I love my profession - there is nothing more satisfying then to teach my native language. I think when you do something that you love you always give 200% and improve the process.
