About Simal
I have worked in secondary schools for 6 years. I spent almost a year as a 1-1 tutor working with KS3 pupils to improve weak numeracy skills. I left this role to begin teacher training via Teach First. I worked for 5 years within the same school, teaching a range of abilities across 11-16 age group. I have taught Edexcel GCSE and IGCSE and AQA Level 2 Further Mathematics. In my time there, I took a lead on developing a mastery approach within KS3 curriculum. I also worked on developing a cohesive curriculum from KS2 and KS3 in partnership with feeder schools so am familiar of KS2 SATs content.

I draw upon cognitive science when planning my lessons to ensure learning is in accessible chunks and is reviewed regularly and systematically to ensure it is not forgotten. I begin lessons with 5-10 recap questions. When teaching the main topic of the lesson, I start with the basics and ensure each step of a procedure is fluent and understood, before moving onto to similar/commonly confused problems to ensure element of pupils deciding what maths is needed in order to prepare for real life and exam based scenarios.
