  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed an interest in tutoring law subjects in 2011, during my undergraduate degree(LLB). This was borne out of the need to support struggling students ace their courses by simplifying law lectures through tutorial sessions. I was appointed group leader in 2011 over 15-20 students to provide guidance and clarity in their course works and law subjects.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I love to teach law, any law at all, but particularly business law. This covers the law of contract, commercial law, company law, corporate governance and corporate social responsibility, dispute resolution, torts and ADR. Other course i enjoy teaching are International Law, Labour Law, EU law, environmental law, medical law and international organisations. The only law subjects I do not enjoy teaching as much as the others are criminal law and human rights law.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My Corporate Governance lecturer at Middlesex University inspired me to take on private tutoring in 2016. It was the way she was passionate about helping me succeed. She was always open to listen and explain and I feel this is what creates the major impact on students. The fact that their tutors really care about them and would go the extra mile to see them succeed.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor should have a passion for teaching, be patient and be able to understand the needs of each student in order to provide student-centered teaching. A good tutor should always be open to questions and be flexible with time. A good tutor should be able to go the extra-mile to ensure the student understands the lesson and must not be motivated by money alone. A good tutor must be very knowledgeable in the subjects he/she teaches, must be an excellent researcher and up-to-date with recent developments in his/her field. A good tutor should also be friendly, have a sense of humour, professional, presentable, available, organised and have excellent communication skills and integrity.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

In 2016, during my LLM study at Middlesex University, I struggled with a particular subject. This was because I could not understand my lecturer's Asian accent so I would go to class most times just to tick the attendance box but I wasn't getting anywhere with the course. After some serious thinking, I came up with a plan that helped me and improved my grades. I would go to class as usual, but earlier this time and set my phone to record the lecture. After the class, I would go back home and replay the lecture until I got what she was saying. This really improved my grades in addition to reading various materials on the topic. This is one of the reasons why I believe that there are no impossible subjects, students just have to find a method that works for them and stick to it.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

The major challenge for me is the ever-changing nature of the law and keeping up with these changes. I overcome this by constant research and being very open minded.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Yes I do. My passion is helping disadvantaged people and helping people generally. I am a natural helper and I feel fulfilled when I have been able to help anyone lift a burden. This is generally and encompasses teaching.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

Answer: I provide teaching that meets the needs of my students and I never treat two students the same. This is because I understand that individuals have different levels of understanding and I try my best to utilise different methods to ensure that they understand the lessons taught and can confidently answer questions on that lesson or topic. I am professional, friendly, flexible and I go the extra mile for my students, providing them with current research materials on topics discussed at no extra charge. I am also open to answer any questions they might have on the topic even after the paid sessions at no extra charge. This is because for me, it is not just about the money but bringing value to my students and seeing them excited when their results come in. That's fulfillment for me. I check on my students to ensure they are getting along well with their course work and courses and not just walk away after a paid session. I still provide guidance where required.
