About Owen

I have over six years of experience teaching Geography in secondary schools and currently work as a Deputy Head of Geography.

I teach students across the secondary age range and have extensive experience preparing students for GCSE examinations, supporting students with different abilities and confidence levels, and developing exam technique.

My experience includes teaching physical and human Geography, case studies, fieldwork, geographical skills and examination preparation.

I particularly enjoy helping students who feel they are "not good at Geography" build their confidence and realise they can make significant progress with the right support.

Experienced Geography Teacher | GCSE & A-Level Geography

Hello, I'm Owen, a qualified secondary school Geography teacher with over six years of classroom experience. I currently work as a Deputy Head of Geography and teach Geography at secondary level.

I specialise in GCSE and A-Level Geography and help students develop their knowledge, confidence and exam technique so they can achieve their full potential.

Whether a student is struggling with a particular topic, looking to improve their grade, preparing for upcoming exams or aiming for the highest possible marks, I provide personalised lessons based on their individual needs.

What I can help with

GCSE Geography | £35 per hour

* Physical Geography
* Human Geography
* Case studies and geographical examples
* Map and data skills
* Fieldwork
* Exam technique
* 4, 6 and 9-mark questions
* Revision and exam preparation
* Building confidence and improving grades

A-Level Geography | £40 per hour

* Physical Geography Specialist
* Case studies and wider geographical examples
* Synoptic links
* Essay planning and evaluation
* Extended-response questions
* Exam technique
* Revision and exam preparation
* NEA guidance and support

I can adapt lessons to different exam boards and will focus on the specific specification and topics that each student is studying.

My teaching approach

I believe tutoring should be personalised, not one-size-fits-all.

I start by finding out what the student already knows, where they are currently struggling and what they want to achieve. I then structure lessons around those areas.

My lessons combine explanation, discussion, questioning and exam practice. I place particular emphasis on helping students apply geographical knowledge and write effective exam answers, rather than simply memorising facts.

For exam preparation, we can work on understanding command words, using case studies effectively, developing evaluation and structuring longer answers to access the higher levels of the mark scheme.

Most importantly, I want students to leave each lesson feeling more confident and knowing exactly what they need to work on next.

Why choose me?

As a current secondary Geography teacher, I teach the subject every day and understand the demands of GCSE and A-Level examinations.

I have experience working with students of different abilities and confidence levels, including those who need additional support and those aiming for the highest grades.

My aim is to make Geography understandable, interesting and relevant while giving students the practical skills they need to succeed in their exams.

Lessons

I offer online tutoring and, depending on location and availability, face-to-face sessions around the Leigh-on-Sea and Southend area.

I am happy to work with students on a regular weekly basis or provide targeted support for upcoming exams.

If you're interested in tutoring, please get in touch and tell me:

* The student's year group
* Their exam board
* Their current/target grade
* The topics they are currently studying
* What they would like help with

Then I can suggest how I can best support them.

I look forward to helping you become more confident and successful in Geography!
