About Maria
I'm a qualified teacher who loves teaching, books and creative writing. The only thing better than reading a page turner is inspiring a love of reading in others. I am currently returning to tutoring after maternity leave and am really excited about connecting with students again... not that worrying about naps and nappies all day hasn't been fun :) Over the past several years, I have worked with students age 6 to 18 and have loved watching students grow into more confident readers and writers. It's always wonderful when students' grades improve; I have seen a student's grades jump from 6 to 9, and a student who wasn't sure he even wanted to attempt an A level in English Lit not only complete the course, but achieve a B. However, I am always clear that the most important goal is helping students to enjoy my subject and gain confidence.

With older students, I am keen to foster a sense of independence, so I work with students to set targets. I want students to feel comfortable to ask questions and be curious. I celebrate every step forward with students, so that they can take pride in themselves and the progress they are making.
