About Claire
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Brain Science, with a strong academic background in science, mathematics, learning, and cognition. During college, I worked as a SciTrek tutor, where I taught elementary students the scientific method through interactive, hands-on lessons and experiments. This experience helped me develop age-appropriate ways to explain complex STEM concepts in a fun and engaging way.

What makes me unique as a tutor is my background in educational psychology and the science of learning and memory. Because I understand how students encode, retain, and retrieve information, I use evidence-based learning techniques such as concept mapping, active recall, spaced repetition, and guided problem-solving to help students build lasting understanding rather than short-term memorization.
I am most passionate about teaching math and science to students in 4th through 10th grade because these are foundational years where confidence and study habits are built. My goal is to help students not only improve their grades, but also develop curiosity and confidence in how they learn.
A typical session begins with a quick check-in to understand what the student is currently learning and where they may be struggling. From there, I break concepts into manageable steps and use visual explanations, examples, and guided practice problems. For science, I love connecting ideas to real-world examples and encouraging students to think like scientists by asking questions and testing ideas. For math, I focus on building step-by-step problem-solving skills and helping students explain their reasoning out loud.
I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing into independent learners.
