About Chia-Shan
Hello, My name is Chia-Shan Hsu! I earned my Doctor of Musical Arts degree in violin performance, with a minor in collaborative piano at Louisiana State University in May 2020, and I received my Master of Music in violin performance at Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University in 2016. As a solo violinist, I have learned diverse programs during the time when I was at school and summer festivals. In the last four years, I had at least one solo recital per year. I also had lots of opportunities to play in the masterclasses at school and summer festivals. One of my favorite musical types is chamber music that I always played chamber music with my friends, and we performed for each other's recitals, so we accumulated various repertoire. Plus, it was fortunate for me to have opportunities to play with LSU faculty at the concerts. Besides, I was chosen to perform chamber music with Gil Shaham and his wife Adele Anthony and collaborated with numerous renowned musicians in the Aspen Music Festival. As an orchestra player, I am playing in the Civic Orchestra of Chicago now. In the past few years, I was assigned to be the concertmaster frequently in the LSU Symphony Orchestra, and LSU Opera Orchestra. Moreover, I participated in a couple of orchestral excerpts masterclasses in the ASF. And my last project in DMA is a video of introducing and demonstrating some standard orchestra excerpts repertoire. My professional work was not limited to violin performance. I have performed as a collaborative pianist in the concerts and helped my studio mates play in the studio class or masterclass when they were not able to find a pianist. During my doctorate study, I have served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at LSU which allowed me to accumulate experience in teaching the violin section in the Kid’s Orchestra and plan on organizing the recital at the end of each semester. In 2019, I invited LSU professors to Taiwan, where they had two concerts and four masterclasses. We shared the school's information with Taiwan’s students and provided them more ideas about studying abroad. Attention: The price that is listed on the website is for the beginners' ONLINE LESSON. According to different levels of the students, I will use various methods to teach. I am very careful with students’ posture in the beginning because I don’t want them to get injured in the future by playing the violin or piano. Also, I would love my students to note their practice time, and send me some practice videos, so I am able to keep track of them! I will also send some videos to the parents to let them know that your kids are doing well! On the other hand, I like to make students think about what the problem is first, and try their best to solve the problem by themselves instead of telling them everything.

I've been knowing Chia-Shan for few years and we've performed in different venues. We met in Aspen Music Festival and we performed for many internationally renowned musicians. She is not only a great musician but also a super kind and nice person. Anyone would enjoy working with her!
