About John
John Curran is an Educator, Composer,
Drummer and Sound Designer based in
Manchester, UK.
As a drummer and teacher, John has over
20 years of extensive experience
performing across Europe and educating.
He teaches privately and in schools in the
Northwest of England. John has a 100%
pass rate with the Trinity London and
Rockschool curriculums.
Studying at The University of Salford,
John received a 1st in Composition &
performance. A student of drumming
legend Dave Hassel.
As a composer and sound designer, his work
has aired globally on BBC,NBC, Sky Sports,
Sky Atlantic, Discovery Channel, CNBC,
and PBS.
John composed music and created sound
design for Richard Branson's and Virgins
animation series ‘Richard’s Adventures’,
Commercials campaigns for global brands
such as Nike, Kellogg's, Babbel and Raid.
He provided additional arranging and
mixing for the Cbeebies children's TV
series ‘Roots and Fruits’
Additionally John has been for responsible
for creating music and sound design for a
number of museums and exhibitions across
the globe; such as The National Army
Museum (UK), The Sheikh Abdullah Al
Salem Cultural Centre (Kuwait), Mleiha
Archaeological Centre (UAE)

I am passionate and patient with all my students. Lesson structures can be vastly diverse because every student is completely different.
I like to encourage students to play along and listen to music as much as possible, to be creative and not be scared to make mistakes. For beginner to Intermediate, I encourage to learn songs from the Rock School or Trinity Rock Pop curriculums.
We work through the song, note by note, bar by bar. This gives students the building blocks for reading drum music so they have the skills to figure out parts during there personal practice time.
I have a strong focus on technique and correct striking.
Most of all, I encourage everyone to have fun.
