About Andrew
I trained at LAMDA and have been acting professionally for 46 years in Theatre, Film, TV and Radio including Rep, West End, RSC, Old Vic, Donmar and National Theatre.
Apart from teaching practical skills such as voice, character work and text, I would hope to inspire the same love and passion for acting that I have myself.

I have a relaxed approach, feeling that students should feel an atmosphere where they can experiment with a scene or speech and not feel they have to get it ‘right’. Quite honestly there is no ‘right’ way. I have run Shakespeare workshops for all ages 5-18 over 11 years. I think for small groups or even a one to one session maybe 45 minutes to an hour is enough to start with.
I would start with a 10 minute warm up of body and voice and for the latter I have a couple of tantalisingly difficult tongue twisters I’d love to teach you! We’d then move on to building characters. I’d offer you a chance to pull a ‘character’ out of a hat as would I (maybe we’d pick opposing genders, ages, religious beliefs?) we’d improvise a scene between these people. We’d repeat all this for the following session or sessions until we had an array of characters which we could put together in an imagined setting e.g. a public park, a shopping mall, a Saturday night out, playing all the parts randomly and discovering how their interactions work. This requires us both to trust each other as Actors and could be quite tricky, but might be quite fun.
After that any time left would be spent working speeches/scenes you’d like to look at generally or for a specific audition. Don’t worry, I have plenty of material for us to look at if you’re not sure! This is a general plan, but I am of course open to a specific need/want you may want to address in the session.
