About Josh
A graduate of USC's School of Cinema-Television, Josh Chesler is a WGA writer, director, and producer with years of experience working on everything from TV to features to commercials, short films and music videos. He wrote and executive produced the original feature film CHASING GHOSTS (starring Tim Meadows and Frances Conroy) and has written movies for SyFy Channel and various independent producers. In TV, he's sold pilots to AMC, Legendary TV, Imagine, and Village Roadshow. His award-winning digital thriller series THE APPLICANT, co-directed with Paul Connor, played at festivals across the country. In the audio space, he wrote CHUTZPAH, a Webby Award-winning historical companion podcast for Monkeypaw and Amazon’s high-profile series HUNTERS.
In addition, he has conceived and directed numerous music videos, commercials, and brand campaigns with major production houses and agencies, including writing award-winning video treatments for artists including Katy Perry, Beck, Matisyahu, Modest Mouse, Adele, and Green Day, as well as commercials including HP’s iconic “Hands” campaign and the viral video success “Wiley vs. Rhodes,” which he also directed. He also works as a branding and marketing consultant with clients including Netflix, Apple, Sundance Institute and the Gates Foundation.

He not only knows how to help students perfect their craft, but also navigate the business of a career in the entertainment industry. If you're looking for a talented and supportive writing coach, Josh is your guy!
Josh has a deep knowledge of the mechanics of screenwriting. He is extremely insightful about both character and plot and is able to tease out the subtext of a story to create a more fully realized world. Josh was able to elevate my horror script through identifying both pacing and character concerns without innately changing the material. Josh can work cross-genre as ultimately he is able to amplify the human moments that resonate with an audience, regardless of the story. I cannot recommend Josh more highly.
