About Matthew
I am a recent PhD in law from the University of Essex. I also hold a CELTA certificate in teaching English as a foreign language and have experience in teaching students from reception age through to retirement age. What I enjoy about teaching is the ability to empower and give students confidence. I get satisfaction from my job when the student has fulfilled their aims, especially when it this involved mastering a particular area of difficulty. My approach is relaxed yet thorough. I believe that learning is most effective when the student is relaxed and at their ease and I strive for this in lessons. I am an outgoing and friendly personality and I strive to make lessons as enjoyable and informal as possible without at any time losing sight of the objective to be achieved. As a graduate of a combined English/History degree as well law I am happy to consider tutoring in both History and A Level/undergraduate law as well.

My approach is tailor made to the pupil. I will consult with the pupil or their parent and assess their learning objectives and I will come up with a tailored plan to suit them. I will then offer a trial lesson without charge so that the pupil can see whether I am for them or not. I have experience in teaching at language schools in both the UK and in Austria, Italy and Egypt where I was hired to create and deliver a 5 week academic English course. My most recent teaching experience has been at the Universities of Essex and Kent, teaching on undergraduate law courses while undertaking a PhD at Essex.
