About Jan
I have over 11 years of experience teaching piano, specialising in helping college students develop both technical skills and artistic expression. My lessons are designed to be engaging, interactive, and tailored to each student’s learning style and goals.
I focus on building a strong foundation in technique, sight-reading, rhythm, and music theory while encouraging creativity through improvisation, composition exercises, and blending classical and contemporary music.
I also emphasise performance preparation, helping students gain confidence on stage and express themselves fully. My teaching philosophy is that music should be both enjoyable and meaningful.
I strive to create a supportive and motivating environment where students feel inspired to explore their musical potential, grow as musicians, and cultivate a lifelong love for piano.

My piano teaching approach combines creativity, mentorship, and accountability. I believe piano learning should be enjoyable, structured, and confidence-building.
Creativity is encouraged through improvisation, creative exercises, and exploring a variety of music styles. Students are guided to express themselves and connect emotionally with music.
As a mentor and critical thinker, I explain musical concepts such as rhythm, chords, scales, technique, and expression in simple and clear ways. Students are encouraged to think, listen carefully, and solve challenges independently.
Accountability is an essential part of my teaching. I help students set achievable goals, follow practice routines, and review their progress consistently. This helps students stay disciplined and confident in their learning journey.
In addition to piano, I also teach music theory, sight reading, ear training, rhythm training, keyboard coordination, and basic composition to ensure complete musical development.
