About Maia
My journey as a piano tutor began with a lifelong fascination with melody, harmony, and expressive potential of the instrument. I earned a B.Mus in Piano Performance and Music Education, which provided me with the knowledge and pedagogical skills to teach students effectively. Over 12 years, I have guided learners from beginners to advanced performers, helping them develop technical precision, musical understanding, and performance confidence.
I teach with patience, individualized attention, and a focus on blending technical skill with artistic expression. Lessons incorporate structured exercises, repertoire study, and improvisation, ensuring learners grow both in technique and musical creativity. I emphasize cultivating a personal musical voice and encouraging students to explore their own interpretive ideas.
Outside of teaching, I continue performing, studying, and researching piano repertoire, keeping lessons vibrant and relevant. Teaching piano is deeply rewarding because I witness students transform their technical skill, artistic ability, and self-confidence, creating a lifelong appreciation for music and personal growth through the instrument.

Piano lessons flourish when students combine technical exercises with expressive exploration and creative application. My approach emphasizes finger independence, sight-reading, rhythmic accuracy, tonal control, phrasing, and stylistic interpretation. Lessons integrate technique, repertoire study, and improvisation to ensure learners can apply skills creatively. I foster a supportive environment where students feel encouraged to experiment with sound, challenge themselves, and build confidence while developing technical mastery and artistic expression simultaneously.
Lesson plans are adapted to each student’s level and objectives. Beginners work on hand coordination, basic note reading, simple melodies, and foundational rhythm. Intermediate learners refine dynamics, expressive phrasing, sight-reading fluency, and hand coordination. Advanced learners focus on complex repertoire, nuanced stylistic interpretation, improvisation, and preparation for performance or examinations. Each session includes guided practice, constructive feedback, and reflection to strengthen skill retention and expressive ability.
Piano lessons also cultivate focus, patience, and self-confidence. Students gain the ability to perform independently and collaboratively while interpreting music with clarity and personal expression. My goal is to create an inspiring and structured learning environment where learners develop technical expertise, musical artistry, and lasting appreciation for piano music.
