About Hazel
My love for piano began through years of exploring different musical styles and discovering how music can bring people together. This passion inspired me to complete a Bachelor of Music in Keyboard Studies followed by a Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy. During my 12 years of teaching experience, I have worked with students of various ages and backgrounds, helping them develop strong technical foundations while maintaining enthusiasm for learning. Teaching piano allows me to combine musical expertise with my dedication to student growth.
A major focus of my work involves helping students develop confidence through collaborative music-making. I enjoy teaching duets, ensemble performance, and group activities that encourage listening, coordination, and teamwork. Many of my students have participated in school events, community performances, and local showcases where they gained valuable performance experience. I believe these opportunities help learners grow both musically and personally.
Outside teaching, I enjoy performing, arranging music, and exploring new teaching methods. These experiences help me bring creativity and fresh ideas into every lesson. Watching students transform from hesitant beginners into confident musicians is one of the most rewarding aspects of my profession. I look forward to helping each learner discover their strengths and enjoy the exciting journey of piano study.

My piano lessons are designed to help students become comfortable and expressive musicians from the very beginning. I focus on developing musical fluency through practical learning experiences that combine technique, listening, and performance skills. Students work on finger independence, reading fluency, rhythm coordination, sight reading, keyboard navigation, articulation control, and duet playing. Rather than treating these skills separately, I help learners understand how they work together to create confident and enjoyable piano playing. Every lesson includes activities that encourage active participation and steady growth.
Lessons are adapted to each learner's goals and experience level. Beginners build strong foundations through note recognition, hand coordination, rhythm exercises, and simple repertoire. Intermediate students strengthen dynamic control, chord understanding, accompaniment patterns, and reading confidence. Advanced learners focus on interpretation, performance preparation, expressive phrasing, and technical refinement. Students interested in contemporary music receive support with popular styles, while collaborative learners develop ensemble and accompaniment skills. Regular feedback helps students continue progressing with confidence.
I believe piano should be both educational and enjoyable. My lessons help students become independent musicians who understand what they play and why they play it. As learners grow, they often become more confident in expressing themselves through music. My goal is to help students build lasting musical skills while developing a genuine appreciation for piano performance and creativity.
