I approach each topic by laying down the fundamentals with proofs and intuitions, then after teaching the core material I give an extension challenge to incorporate everything learnt together.
I find this really pushes people to understand what they’re doing and not just learn it.
In my opinion, the key to retaining information is learning why, not what.
