About Sophia
Hi, I’m Sophia! I’m a final-year Philosophy undergraduate at the University of Edinburgh, with particular interests in medical ethics, aesthetics and the philosophy of art and music.
What I love most about philosophy is the way it encourages us to question ideas we often take for granted. I enjoy discussing different perspectives, challenging arguments and connecting philosophical questions to real life, art, culture and our own experiences.
I want to bring that same curiosity into my lessons — creating a space where you feel comfortable debating, questioning and developing your own ideas, while building the critical thinking and writing skills needed to succeed academically.

I offer tutoring for A-Level Philosophy and GCSE Religious Studies, Philosophy and Ethics.
Bring along the topics you’re studying or struggling with, and we’ll work through them together. My lessons are discussion-based, using debate and questioning to help you genuinely understand philosophical ideas rather than simply memorising them. I’ll encourage you to challenge arguments, develop your own views and become more confident in critically analysing different perspectives.
We can also work specifically on essay writing — from structuring an argument and using evidence effectively to developing stronger analysis, evaluation and conclusions.
My aim is to make philosophy feel exciting and relevant, while giving you the skills and confidence to express your ideas clearly and succeed academically.

Sophia was a great saxophone tutor who was able to greatly improve my musical improvisation skills and sight reading! Her patience and various approaches to teaching keeps the lessons exciting and fun, and I couldn’t recommend her enough! She works well with young children, and has extensive knowledge about various genres and styles, so is able to accommodate to pretty much anyone. We were able to come up with a good practising schedule and technique strategy, and I feel more and more confident about my musical skills the more I go to her lessons. Thank you Sophia!
I had Sophia as a teacher throughout my sixth form for grades six and seven. She was a really inspiring teacher and gave me a lot of self confidence pushing me to achieve distinction in both exams. Always looked forward to our lessons and I couldn’t have done it without her!!
