About Hugo
After doing his A-levels at Tiffin School, Hugo read German and Music at the University of Nottingham before completing a Masters in German Studies at University College London. He is currently in the final stages of a PhD with the German department at King’s College London, looking into experimental rock music soundtracks in German films of the 1960s and 1970s.
Hugo is an experienced private tutor specialising particularly in small group tuition and, besides 11+, has previously tutored in German, Music and Maths. As well as setting up and running an extra-curricular German film club for students at a North London secondary school, he has worked with small student groups at A-level and led undergraduate seminars at both King’s College London and University College London.
As his PhD project may suggest, Hugo is a lover of both music and films of all kinds (German or otherwise!) and was formerly active on the professional music circuit as a jazz drummer, playing at such prestigious London venues as Ronnie Scott’s and in an award-winning show at the Edinburgh Festival. Besides going out for city runs or long hikes , he also loves pulling on his football boots for a kickabout, or otherwise following his beloved Crystal Palace Football Club.
