About Amber
I'm an experienced high school and college English teacher/tutor and student success coach who is passionate about learning! I will go above and beyond to support my students as they overcome challenges, learn new skills and gain confidence as a reader and/or writer.
I approach learning from a growth mindset perspective where confusion or mistakes are just a normal part of the learning process. I'm excited to listen to what you need and work with your learning style to help you work past the challenge, develop new skills, and apply what you've learned!

Let's start with what you know and work together to build up the English grammar, literature or composition knowledge and skills you need! I take a kind of KWL (what you Know, what you Want/need to know, and then what you Learned) approach to tutoring so that each student gets what they need the most.
As an experienced English teacher and tutor, I offer individualized instruction, guidance and feedback for students of all ages and degree paths. With a bachelor's in secondary education, a master's in English, and a nearly completed doctorate in 19th Century English literature, I can help students from elementary school to college (and beyond) with a wide range of English language, literature and composition topics.
Everyone learns differently and at their own pace, so I work to meet all kinds of learners (read/write, auditory, visual, kinesthetic or multimodal) where they are, listen carefully to their concerns and what they need to learn, and help build a plan of action to help them achieve those goals.
My years of experience teaching and tutoring not only English but also student success skills has taught me to use a growth or creator mindset approach to tutoring:
Whether it's grammar, spelling, or sentence structure, whether it's an essay, a research project, a master's thesis or a complex literary or scholarly text you need to read, all these are skills that can be learned and strengthened as we work together.
